Nowadays the LAPTOP has replaced the desk computer due to its portability, compactness and mobility. You can take it aboard an aircraft, on a yacht or anywhere else and keep working etc. The only downside is that its battery requires re-charging. Having been used for a few hours, the battery gets discharged and you have to re-charge it for further exploitation. Laptop producing companies have not created a laptop yet that can work 24/7. nevertheless, several significant steps forward have been undertaken to increase battery's life. There are 3 main types of laptop batteries. The first rechargeable laptop batteries were Nickel Cadmium (NiCd). They were reasonably priced and had a high output. Nevertheless, they were heavy and are not used these days any more. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are sometimes used in older models of laptops. They have a higher output in comparison to NiCd batteries. Moreover, they are considered to be cheaper and safer. The only disadvantage is the so-called memory effect they have. If the battery has not discharged fully, it will remember it and will put out less power than it should do. Lithium Ion (LiON) batteries are generally installed in technically advanced makes of laptops. They are not that rather heavy as NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and have no memory effect. Nevertheless, LiON batteries cost more. Actually the more expensive a battery is, the longer your laptop will work. So, it mainly depends on purposes you use your laptop for. Those who travel a lot, need an extended power source. If you want to replace your laptop battery, remember that it should be compatible with a laptop make, in spite of the fact that lots of laptop batteries today are compatible with all models. After that consider 2 major ratings on it: Volts and Milliamps. The voltage should be within 10% of the original battery voltage. When you buy a battery, always search for the one with the biggest Milliamps figure. An external laptop battery is attached to a laptop through an AC adapter plug which consists of an adapter, a cord plus thirteen other connectors. When purchasing an AC adapter, make sure that it will suit the current output and voltage. These data are commonly provided on labels of a laptop and on the original adapter. The letter 'V' denotes voltage and 'A' or 'mA' - current output. The voltage figure should be within 10% of your original adaptor voltage. The Amps figure can be higher but should not be lower comparing to the original current output. Another thing to keep in mind is that tip dimensions of an AC adapter and the shape of a battery should be identical to the original ones. Certainly, any device requires appropriate usage. Laptop power devices are no exception. Store and exploit them following safety regulations and they will serve you longer.
